42. Receiving Feedback & Resentment, Shame, Anxiety, Fear, and Curiosity - With Help from the Masters (Brené Brown, Parker Palmer, Cory Muscara)!

Brené Brown (Atlas of the Heart), Parker Palmer (Courage to Teach), and Cory Muscara (Stop Missing Your Life) help us look at the emotions that often accompany receiving feedback – particularly if we hear something negative.

In a recent post, Cory Muscara offered this:

“Next time you're given negative feedback, say to yourself: Oof, it hurts to hear this. But I know if I can hold the discomfort, I can uncover the lesson. So, in what ways can this feedback spark creative inspiration for my next steps rather than trigger a spiral of self-doubt?”

In the episode Yo shares her experience of being recently reviewed for her position, Adjunct Lecturer at SJSU. We hope you’ve taken a similar journey and can relate to the emotions that came up for you. While her example is about teaching, Dwayne Dyer reminds us that “just as we’re all students throughout life, we’re all teachers.”
