134. Friendship Realities: Fizzles, Changes, and Coping Strategies

This episode continues our conversation about Friendships started in Ep 131 with NoorJehan Tourte and continued for the next 2 episodes. This episode explores why friendships end and how we can cope with their loss.

Here are the three takeaways from today’s episode:

1. When friendships end there can be potential pain and shame, especially when there is a lack of clarity or closure.

2. Open communication can help maintain friendships and we can address changes in communication patterns, express concerns, and be willing to have difficult conversations can potentially save a friendship. The idea that "friendships heal by making the unsaid said" underscores the importance of discussing issues rather than silently withdrawing.

3. We need to normalize ending friendships as an aspect of life allow ourselves to experience and express a range of emotions, including grief and we need to exam our own contributions to friendship dynamics.
